BROADcast Concert Series: Academy String Quartet Presents: “Imported and Domestic Lyricism”

Monday, April 13, 2026 (7:30 PM - 9:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The BROADcast Concert Series presents one of Pittsburgh’s top chamber ensembles, Academy String Quartet, for a special concert titled "Domestic and Imported Lyricism."

About "Domestic and Imported Lyricism"
On the imported side we have the famous Haydn Serenade - not actually written by Haydn - put up alongside a gorgeous songful slow movement, genuine Haydn, as part of his String Quartet Opus 9, #2.
Lyric for Strings by American composer George Walker is set side-by-side with the more famous Adagio for Strings by Walker’s friend Samuel Barber, in its original form as the middle movement of Barber’s String Quartet.
As a hybrid of the home-grown and imported, and in the verbal sense of lyricism, we have the poetry of the beloved children’s book Madeline, set in Paris, with accompanying music by American musician Elaine Fine.

The Academy String Quartet is a distinguished chamber ensemble based in the Pittsburgh region, comprising musicians from the Academy Concerts series—including violinists Jorie Butler‑Geyer and Leah Givelber, violist Warren Davidson, and cellist Cecilia Caughman. The group performs thoughtfully curated programs that blend classical masterpieces with modern and thematic repertoire.

Admission is free, and all are welcome to join us for this inspiring musical experience.

Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the ongoing work of the Charles Wesley Music Foundation, which continues to bring music and community together.
